Week Two

Again, I have very little to write here. These focused observations have not been that great on my end. The first week was tainted by the news of the teacher being let go and this week was all kinds of messy. The only tech use I've seen has been the teacher playing videos and this week was no different. Although, movies were added to the lineup since the mentor teacher was out half the week.

I've noticed that both first and second period hardly bring their laptops to class. Either they know they won't use them in my mentor's room or they don't use them in the school much at all, I don't know. This week was the first time I heard anyone mention Canvas and it was a student talking about another class.

That's not to say the work is done on paper. There isn't work really at all. Students are asked to plan speeches, and instead they sit and talk while the teacher grades her English classes' work. So perhaps in another room in the school there's tech, but it is not heavily integrated in this room.

My mentor said I could lead a lesson on creating citations in Google Docs next week which would involve tech, but she's changed the date of this lesson three times, making me think it probably won't happen. Further, I mentioned not having wifi at the school and being unable to use Google Docs because of it and she said "Oh well, then". So not only is the class hardly integrated, I'm not really either.

Again, I'm left here at the end of the week feeling like I'm not doing or learning anything.
